The march was in solidarity with Oaxacans who were arrested and jailed while participating in a Palestine solidarity action and also in solidarity with the Palestinian people who are currently under siege by the Israeli army. Obama and the Economy

Lun, 11/24/2008 - 2:12pm
The economy elected Barack Obama President, and it will make or break his administration. Right now it seems likely to break it, as Obama's announced appointees to staff his government come almost exclusively from the moderate administration of Bill Clinton, thereby assuring the ruling class that "change you can believe in" means "change the rich and powerful won't have to worry about." Without a mass Left movement on the order of the socialists and communists who in the 1930's pushed Franklin Roosevelt to the Left, Obama's Presidency is likely to be yet another suck-up to corporate America and its anti-labor, anti-environment, anti-worker "free trade" agenda.

Proposition 8 Battle Energizes Queer Community

Lun, 11/24/2008 - 11:54am
The resistance movement to Proposition 8 is bringing forward a new generation of Queer community leaders who are rejecting the "safe" strategies of their elders and the namby-pamby losing campaign against it. Young activists are organizing demonstrations on the Internet and giving speeches that remind author Leo Laurence - who founded the first Gay-liberation group in San Francisco in January 1969, five months before Stonewall - of the radical Queers of the late 1960's and early 1970's.

Lun, 11/24/2008 - 11:47am
The new book "Boy Crazy" by Philadelphia-based Gay therapist Michael Shelton asks why it's so hard for Gay men in coupled relationships to stay sexually exclusive. Shelton examines the "men are from Mars" theory as it applies to Gay men, the extent to which males in general are "hard-wired" for sexual diversity, the easy availability of alternative sex partners and the perils of "open relationships."

Former UCSD professor Lew Perry spoke to the Humanist Fellowship of San Diego November 16 on the conflicts between religion, science and democracy. He said that conflicts are inevitable because when religion makes statements about the physical world -- like the Bible's claim that the earth is fixed in space -- scientists can and must challenge the religious understanding of physical reality.

Rally Against Prop H8: Manchester Grand Hyatt

Mar, 11/18/2008 - 5:02pm
Rally Agaist Hate! Doug Manchester is one of the leading funders ($125,000) of Proposition 8, a California ballot initiative that discriminates against LGBT couples. While Hyatt may officially disavow Manchester's contributions to Proposition 8 as a personal choice, the fact remains that their multi-million dollar LGBT marketing efforts must be seen as little more than sheer hypocrisy when the revenue this marketing attracts is then funneled into efforts that bite the hand which feeds them. In such a situation, we always have the ability to choose not to feed them any longer. RALLY @ MANCHESTER HYATT NOVEMBER 22TH -5:00 P.M. 1 Market Place, San Diego, CA 92101
